Gambia’s Ex Spy Chief Sentenced to Death

Gambia’s former intelligence chief Yankuba Badjie and four other security agents have been sentenced to death by a judge for the 2016 killing of a political activist under the former president Yahya Jammeh.

Ebrima Solo Sandeng the leading opposition leader under the United Democratic Party had been arrested during one of the anti governmental protests.

He later succumbed two days after having being beaten and tortured.

His death sparked a wave of anger across the country leading to the ousting of president jammeh who had been in power for the past 22 years.

Mr. Jammeh fled the country in 2017 to Equatorial Guinea where he is still exiled.
