Kisii County Assembly Deputy speaker David Onuso has been arrested by police for participating in an illegal demonstration in Kisii Bobasi Sub County.
The Masige East MCA;Onuso was arrested Sunday morning in Nyacheki market as he led other locals in a demonstration to champion for the split of Bobasi Constituency.
Other MCAs who were in Onusos company fled the scene as the demonstrations turned chaotic.
Police had to use teargas canisters to disperse the protesting youths numbering to more than 200. It is not clear where the MCA is being held as senior police officers in the area remainedadamant to comment on the matter.
Last week, Interior CS Fred Matiangi told Bobasi residents that, together with other leaders from Kisii had held consultations to have the Constituency split.
Matiangi had called on locals to remain calm and give their leaders time in fighting for the extra Constituency.
Area MP Innocent Obiri said there was a need to have the Constituency split. "We believe the President will listen to our people and consider our petition”.
