MCAs question the fate of volunteer health workers

Nyamira county MCAs have questioned why health workers who were attached to Nyamira County Referral Hospital as interns have not been absorbed.

During the Thursday session, the MCAs said the period for internship has elapsed and hence the individuals should be considered for service delivery across the various health facilities in the county.

Magombo MCA wanted to inquire on the status of health volunteers in the department of health and the policy that is associated with their status as workers in the county.

According to Onyinkwa, the workers who volunteered to work in the health department should be considered either for pay or absorption as health workers in the county.

The county has trained over 1000 health workers in preparedness to counter the COVID-19 pandemic through screening, surveillance and sensitization, whom the MCAs wanted to know the position of the county government on the fate of the said volunteers.

The volunteers were to help implement random and enhanced screening at strategic points in the health facilities across the county and continuous dissemination of customized awareness and preventive messages on COVID-19

The Deputy Speaker and Bonyamatuta MCA Robinson Mocheche who was chairing the Thursday afternoon assembly sessions directed that the response to the questions be tabled in fourteen days from the day of the request for the statement.
