Pastor accused of killing wife released on bond

Joel Mogaka, the Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor who was arrested three weeks ago has been charged with the murder of his wife Hilda Nyamusi.

Kisii Judge Anthony Ndungu released the accused on a bond of Sh 500,000 with a similar surety. The suspect pleaded not guilty with the Judge setting February 24 for the mention of the case.

The lead investigating officer Corporal William Bonuka had two weeks ago filed a miscellaneous application before Ogembo Law Courts Chief Magistrate Denis Mikoyan to have the suspect detained for 14 days to allow DCI to carry out further investigations.

Mogaka’s accomplice Fredrick Obure will now appear in the matter as a prosecution witness.

The pastor is accused to have played part in the killing of his wife at Omosasa village Gucha.

It is alleged that he later transported the body to a private morgue in Kisii town pretending that the deceased had committed suicide.

At the morgue, the hospital administration and other family members raised alarm leading to the arrest of the main suspect.

In the same two suspects’ Alice Nyabonyi and her daughter, Annet Kemunto was also charged with murder. They are accused that on January 16, 2021, they killed their father in Boochi village, Bomachoge Borabu Kisii.

They were released on Sh 500,000 bond each.
