John Nyagarama who has been ailing at a Nairobi hospital passed away at around 4 am thismorning.
He has been battling COVID-19 for the last three weeks.
Early this week, rumours went around that the second term governor had died but the county leadership disputed it.
Nyagarama is the first Nyamira County Governor, who was on his second term.
News of his demise was received with shock and grief by the residence of Nyamira County.
In 2017 Nyagarama, was flown to the US for treatment and then came back after the death of his son Ndemo Nyagarama.
Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo will take over as governor for the remaining part of the term.
