Police officers as well as administrators who are found guilty of contributing to the death of any Kenyan through their actions or inaction in the fight against illicit alcohol will be fired and prosecuted, according to the Interior Ministry.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, no officer found guilty will be transferred to another jurisdiction.
He was among local leaders who attended a meeting in Mombasa to deliberate on mechanisms to ruthlessly crack down on manufacturers, transporters, sellers, and peddlers of illegal spirits, narcotic drugs, and other substances in the Coast Region.
“As a policy, security officers and administrators enabling the manufacture, sale and use of killer brews and hard drugs, through their action and/or inaction will not be transferred to other jurisdictions,” said the CS.
“They will be sacked immediately and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
At the same time, CS Kindiki stated that the government will reward diligent officers who combat the menace with state honours and promotions.
“Diligent and patriotic Security and National Government Administration officers who unearth, thwart and apprehend persons behind the trade in illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs will be recognised and appreciated by the Government through promotion and award of State honours,” he said.
CS Kithure emphasised the need to crack down on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which he described as a national security challenge and a threat to Kenya’s survival.
Illicit brew recently killed and 17 people in Kirinyaga county as others lost their sight.
